Training Workshops (required)
Participants in the California Bumble Bee Atlas will need to take part in a training session to learn about bumble bees and the project. This is a necessary step towards getting yourself named on the project's Scientific Collecting Permit. Even if you have previously completed this training workshop, we strongly suggest that you join us again in 2024. Please select and register for one of the three dates below! If you can't join us for any of these, you can always watch a recording of a previous training workshop instead. As a complement to the training workshop, this spring we will be hosting an optional webinar on the Ecology and Conservation of Bumble Bees. Stay tuned for details on this; in the meantime, you can find a recording of last year's webinar on this subject on our Training Videos page.
March 18th, 6-8pm: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_zNauBB3OQuKM_QhbRvgU7A . Please note, this is a rescheduled date for the March 5th training workshop, which we had to cancel.
April 9th, 6-8pm: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN__sIHSq7LRrqorhiDvKTtCQ
May 7th, 6-8pm: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_HZkIfS3dQyu1-jqUKSy23Q
Webinars (optional)
Are you looking for more guidance on identifying bumble bees on the West Coast? We have you covered! We recently conducted webinars on female and male bumble bee identification in Western North America, which you can find on our Training Videos page. There, you will also find the above-mentioned webinar on bumble bee ecology and conservation, as well as some how-to videos recorded for our sister project the Pacific Northwest Bumble Bee Atlas.
Field Events (optional)
Field events are opportunities to join project staff in the field to learn project methods and to catch and handle bumble bees. These events are optional for Atlas volunteers, but they are fun and informative, so please consider joining us! Watch this space for a calendar of field events as we schedule them!

COVID-19 UPDATE: We understand that the current situation with the coronavirus is constantly evolving and differs by community. We have undertaken the California Bumble Bee Atlas with the understanding that the situation with Covid could change quickly -- and differ by location. The most important consideration during this sensitive time is personal and community health. Please follow all relevant regulations and the advice of health care professionals when developing your survey plans for the Atlas. Don't hesitate to stay closer to home if that is the right thing for you and/or your community; the health of our volunteers is of paramount importance. Thank you!
